Verayo Secure ID and Access Solution

Trusted, Secure and Low-cost

Verayo's unique authentication solution makes it effectively impossible for the attackers to clone and attack secure IDs, access cards, transit and event tickets.

RFID based cards are widely used for identification and access. This is primarily because RFID technology provides a very simple, easy-to-use and efficient way to identify and provide access to users. Basic RFID chips used today are good if the purpose is just ease-of-access, and not trusted or secure identification and access.

Trusted identification and access is critical for access to any valued service or facility such as public transport, banking and financial systems, defense or government facilities, or the borders of our country. Trust in identification and access is enabled by the ability to authenticate the source of identity – the ID card or document. Stronger the strength of the authentication solution, higher is the level of trust in the ID card or document. The recent increase in the number of services, facilities and borders depending on these ID cards and documents for access control has led to an increase in the motivation for attackers, and the need for stronger authentication.

Verayo is elevating trust in identification cards and documents to a new level. Verayo’s PUFs based unclonable RFID tags provide highly secure, yet low cost authentication. These PUF based RFIDs can be used in markets such as

  • Transit
  • Identification and access cards for personnel, citizens
  • Bank and loyalty cards
  • Passports and other documents

Solution Overview

As shown in the figure below, when the issuing authority such as a department of motor vehicle, or a department of state, or a bank, issues a Verayo RFID chip based electronic ID card it collects authentication information – “electronic fingerprints” from each card or document, and stores it in a secure database. Thereafter, whenever the ID card or document has to be authenticated, at a port-of-entry, or at a government facility, or at a bank, the authenticating authority scans the ID card, extracts an electronic fingerprint from the Verayo RFID chip, and sends it to the authentication backend at the issuing authority. If this electronic fingerprint matches one of the electronic fingerprints for this particular Verayo RFID chip stored in the secure database, the Verayo RFID chip, and hence the ID card or document embedding it, is authentic.

Verayo RFID tags can be read by industry standard RFID readers available in various form factors, such as check-out units, desktop units, PDAs and even mobile phones.
